Statement on the attempted murder of a young man by the police in Englewood on August 9, 2020

“You’re accusing a captive population who has been robbed of everything of looting. I think it’s obscene” – James Baldwin, 1968

48th Ward Neighbors for Justice unequivocally stands with our comrades across the city in the fight to abolish the Chicago Police Department.

Show solidarity with the journalists and organizations reporting on these events and providing support to Englewood residents terrorized by the Chicago Police Department:

CPD has already admitted that there is no body-cam footage of the shooting of a young man as he ran away. Mechanisms like CPAC would bring in accountability and transparency that simply does not exist now. CPAC is a first step in the journey to defund police and prioritize our communities. Visit bit.ly/UnitedWards to find organizations working in your ward to join the fight for CPAC.

In Solidarity,

48th Ward Neighbors for Justice
